Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) – October, 2018

The All-India CPI-IW for October, 2018 increased by 1 point and pegged at 302 (three hundred and two). On 1-month percentage change, it increased by (+) 0.33 per cent between September, 2018 and October, 2018 when compared with the increase of (+) 0.70 per cent for the corresponding months of last year.

The maximum upward pressure to the change in current index came from Food group contributing (+) 0.95 percentage points to the total change.

At item level, Wheat, Wheat Atta, Fish Fresh, Goat Meat, Poultry (Chicken), Onion, Cabbage, French Beans, Green Coriander Leaves, Lady Finger, Potato, Lemon, Tea (Readymade), Cooking Gas, Electricity Charges, Flowers/Flower Garlands, etc. are responsible for the increase in index.

However, this increase was checked by Coconut Oil, Pure Ghee, Gourd, Palak, Pan Leaf, Quilt, Petrol, etc., putting downward pressure on the index.

The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 5.23 per cent for October, 2018 as compared to 5.61 per cent for the previous month and 3.24 percent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Similarly, the Food inflation stood at (-) 0.95 percent against 0.00 per cent of the previous month and 2.26 percent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

At centre level, Munger-Jamalpur reported the maximum increase of (11 points) followed by Coimbatore, Surat and Ghaziabad (5 points each).

Among others, 4 points increase was observed in 4 centres, 3 points in 8 centres, 2 points in 11 centres and 1 point in 24 centres. On the contrary, Nagpur recorded a maximum decrease of 5 points followed by Jalpaiguri (4 points).

Among others, 2 points decrease was observed in 5 centres. Rest of the 20 centres indices remained stationary.

The indices of 37 centres are above All-India Index and 41 centres’ indices are below national average.

The next issue of CPI-IW for the month of November, 2018 will be released on Monday, 31st December, 2018. The same will also be available on the office website www.labourbureaunew.gov.in.

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) — September, 2018 The All-India CPI-IW for September, 2018 remained stationary at 301 (three hundred and one).

On 1-month percentage change, it remained static between August, 2018 and September, 2018 and it was also static between the corresponding months of previous year.

The maximum downward pressure to the change in current index came from Food group contributing (-) 0.75 percentage points to the total change. At item level, Groundnut Oil, Eggs (Hen), Fish Fresh, Poultry (Chicken), Onion, French Beans, Gourd, Lady Finger, Potato, Tomato, Apple, Coconut, Sugar, etc. are responsible for the decrease in index.

However, this decrease was checked by Rice, Wheat, Wheat Atta, Cauliflower, Peas, Banana, Tea (Ready made), Electricity Charges, Doctor’s Fee, Bus Fare, Petrol, Flowers/Flower Garlands, etc., putting upward pressure on the index.

The year-on-year inflation based on CPI-IW remained stationary at 5.61 per cent between August and September, 2018 as compared to 2.89 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Similarly, the Food inflation stood at 0.00 per cent against (-) 0.32 per cent of the previous month and 1.30 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

At centre level Puducherry reported the maximum decrease of 9 points followed by Goa (7 points). Among others, 5 points decrease was observed in 3 centres, 3 points in 4 centres, 2 points in 3 centres and 1 point in 11 centres. On the contrary, Jharia recorded a maximum increase of 6 points followed by Nagpur (5 points).

Among others, 4 points increase was observed in 2 centres, 3 points in 2 centres, 2 points in 11 centres and 1 point in 14 centres. Rest of the 24 centres’ indices remained stationary.

The indices of 37 centres are above All-India Index and 41 centres’ indices are below national average.

The next issue of CPI-IW for the month of October, 2018 will be released on Friday, 30th November, 2018. The same will also be available on the office website www.labourbureaunew.gov.in.

Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) — December, 2017

The All-India CPI-IW for December, 2017 decreased by 2 points and pegged at 286 (two hundred and eighty six). On 1-month percentage change, it decreased by (-) 0.69 per cent between November, 2017 and December, 2017 when compared with the decrease of (-) 0.72 per cent for the corresponding months of last year.

The maximum downward pressure to the change in current index came from Food grotip contributing (-) 2.37 percentage points to the total change. At item level, Rice, Arhar Dal, Gram Dal, Groundnut Oil, Chilies Green, Brinjal, Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, French Beans, Green Coriander Leaves, Methi, Palak, Peas, Potato, Radish, Tomato, Banana, Sugar, ESI Premium Contribution, Toilet Soap, etc. are responsible for the decrease in index.

However, this decrease was checked by Wheat Atta, Coconut Oil, Fish Fresh, Goat Meat, Onion, Tamarind, Coconut, Electricity Charges, Firewood. Secondary School Fee, Flowers/Flower Garlands, etc., putting upward pressure on the index.

The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 4.00 per cent for December, 2017 as compared to 3.97 per cent for the previous month and 2.23 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Similarly, the Food inflation stood at 4.32 per cent ‘against 3.91 per cent of the previous month and 0.67 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

At centre level, Jamshedpur and Tiruchirapally reported the maximum decrease of (7 points each) followed by Doom Dooma Tinsukia, Siliguri, Godavarikhani and Jalpaiguri (6 points each). Among others, 5 points decrease was observed in 7 centres, 4 points in 10 centres, 3 points in 9 centres, 2 points in 21 centres and 1 point in 13 centres.

On the contrary, Darjeeling recorded a maximum increase of 8 points followed by Maria’ (4 points) and Srinagar (3 points). Among others, 2 points increase was observed in 2 centres and 1 point in 2 centres. Rest of the 5 centres’ indices remained stationary

The indices of 35 centres are above All-India Index and 43 centres’ indices are below national average.

The next issue of CPI-IW for the month of January, 2018 will be released on Wednesday, 28th February, 2018. The same will also be available on the office website www.labourbureanew.gov.in.
